MARION COUNTY, Fla. (WKMG) – A woman allegedly shot a sheriff’s deputy in Florida early Monday with a gun that was hidden in the crotch of her pants while she was being taken to jail.

“She was handcuffed and she is a little bit flexible,” Valerie Strong, spokesperson for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, said.

Investigators say the Marion County deputy was shot at approximately 1 a.m. by Rheanna Harden.

According to Strong, the suspect was in a deputy’s vehicle when she shot him, firing a bullet that grazed his face.

The deputy initially stopped Harden for a traffic violation in Summerfield. She was then arrested for driving with a suspended license, providing false identification to law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Several miles away from the jail, deputies say she opened fire on South Pine Avenue.

“She did have a small-caliber gun concealed in the crotch area of her pants,” Strong said.

Although he was shot, the deputy got out of his vehicle and fired back, hitting the suspect in her shoulders and hips.

“Both were taken to the hospital for their injuries and have been released,” Strong said. “All our deputies and staff here are just very glad and extremely grateful that our deputy is fine.”
