MARION COUNTY, Fla. (TND) — A Florida woman stole a sheriff’s deputy SUV and led authorities on a high-speed chase before dying in a wrong-way crash that killed two others, according to authorities.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a suspicious incident on Feb. 1 at the Forest Plaza in Silver Springs. Officials were told a woman, later identified as 33-year-old Kendra Boone, was trying to take an elderly woman’s keys, but was unsuccessful and kept trying to gain access to the vehicle.

Body camera footage showed the deputy telling Boone to go to the back of the patrol vehicle but as he walked away to the rear, Boone got into the driver’s seat and closed the door. Footage then shows the deputy trying to pull Boone from the SUV but she was able to speed off.

Deputies said they followed Boone for several miles and tried to deploy stop sticks but Boone was able to perform a U-turn and avoid officials while driving at speeds “well over 100 MPH and driving erratically during her attempt to evade deputies.”

At one point, Boone drove off the road in an attempt to pass a semi-truck but lost control of the vehicle, entered into oncoming traffic and crashed into a black pickup truck, officials said.

Deputies said when they arrived on the scene, Boone and three people in the truck were unresponsive.

Boone and two other people were pronounced dead on the scene and the third was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Bodycam video captured the moment a woman stole a deputy’s patrol car in Marion County, Florida. The chase ended in a crash that left two innocent people dead, along with the suspect, 33-year-old Kendra Boone.

“A moron decided to steal his patrol vehicle, which ultimately ended up resulting in us chasing them, and then in a tragic accident, where two individuals were killed because of that moron,” Sheriff Billy Woods of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office told WESH.

The video obtained by WESH showed a deputy responding to a theft call at a shopping plaza Thursday afternoon.

After a woman walked up to the SUV, the deputy rolled down his passenger-side window, telling her they’d talk behind the patrol cruiser. In moments, however, the deputy realizes that she crawled into the open window and into the driver’s seat.

Another responding deputy pursued the suspect in the stolen cruiser.

“The moment she did that, she was a threat to human life. For just merely getting in that car,” Sheriff Woods told WESH.

The sheriff told WESH’s reporters that the department was obligated to go after the SUV because of a rifle that was inside the police cruiser.

Authorities told the outlet that Boone sped away, going over 100 miles per hour, eventually losing control and hitting a pickup head-on, which killed two people in their 70’s from South Carolina.

Sheriff Woods told the station that Boone had a criminal history, showing the outlet’s reporters a roll of paper with her past arrests. According to WESH, Boone rarely ended up with jail or prison time.

“If this person would have been in jail, I would not have two dead innocent people,” Sheriff Woods told WESH.

The sheriff refused to comment on procedures or police with his agency with WESH reporters.

“This moron stole a police vehicle and killed two human beings, what my policies are, what the procedures are mean nothing. We did nothing wrong, my deputy did nothing wrong,” Sheriff Woods told WESH.

A fourth individual was also injured in the crash. There is no word on their condition, according to the outlet.
