BABY #2. Nobody noticed the little boy sitting alone near Gate 23.

Chapter 1: The Boy with the Hospital Tag
The airport terminal seemed to hold its breath. Travelers slowed down. Conversations faded. Even the announcements echoing through the loudspeakers felt distant as Ryan’s mother stared at the tiny hospital tag hanging from the stranger’s neck. Her name was Olivia Hart, and for twenty years she had carried a secret so painful she had buried it deep inside herself. Now that secret was standing barefoot in front of her. Ryan looked from his mother to the other boy, confusion spreading across his face. “Mom, what’s happening?” he asked. Olivia couldn’t answer. Her eyes were locked on the faded words engraved on the tag: BABY #2. The lonely boy nervously stepped backward. He wasn’t used to people staring at him. For years he had survived alone, moving from shelter to shelter, carrying nothing except the necklace and a few memories from the elderly woman who had raised him. “I didn’t steal it,” he whispered. “Grandma said I was wearing it when she found me.” Olivia’s knees weakened. Twenty years ago, there had been two newborn boys in that hospital room. Twins. But only one was ever placed in her arms.
Tears filled Olivia’s eyes as memories flooded back. She remembered waking after a difficult delivery. She remembered doctors whispering nervously outside her room. She remembered being told one baby had died from complications. No body was shown. No funeral was offered. She had been young, frightened, and too exhausted to question the story. Ryan watched his mother carefully. “You mean… he was my brother?” The question shattered the silence. The lonely boy looked equally stunned. Brother? He had spent his entire life believing he belonged to no one. Before Olivia could respond, an older airport employee suddenly appeared from the crowd. The moment he saw the necklace, his face turned pale. “That tag…” he whispered. Olivia turned toward him. The man’s hands began shaking. “I worked at St. Catherine’s Hospital twenty years ago.” The color drained from Olivia’s face. The stranger swallowed hard. “There was an investigation. Babies disappeared. Records vanished.” He looked directly at the lonely boy. “And one of those babies was never found.” Then his expression shifted to fear. Across the terminal, two men in dark suits had stopped walking. They were watching the boys very carefully.
Chapter 2: The Men Who Were Watching
The airport employee immediately lowered his voice. “You need to leave.” Olivia frowned. “What are you talking about?” The man’s eyes never left the two strangers across the terminal. “Those men don’t belong here.” Ryan instinctively moved closer to his mother. The lonely boy—whose name they had just learned was Ethan—noticed the tension too. One of the suited men lifted a phone to his ear while continuing to watch them. The employee’s face grew pale. “Twenty years ago, several infants disappeared from St. Catherine’s. Every witness who tried to speak publicly either lost their job or disappeared completely.” Olivia felt cold. “Are you saying someone took my son?” The employee nodded slowly. “And someone spent decades making sure nobody asked questions.” Ethan looked overwhelmed. Everything he believed about himself was collapsing within minutes. He had come to the airport hoping to collect enough coins for dinner. Instead, he was discovering he might have a family. A brother. A mother. A past.
Before anyone could say another word, a loud announcement echoed through the terminal. At the same moment, the two suited men started walking toward them. Fast. The airport employee reacted immediately. “Run.” Olivia grabbed both boys by their hands. Together they hurried through the crowded terminal while confused passengers stepped aside. Ryan kept glancing at Ethan. The resemblance was impossible to ignore. Same eyes. Same smile. Same scar. Behind them, the suited men pushed through the crowd. One of them shouted into a radio. Olivia’s heart pounded. How could anyone know about Ethan so quickly? Then Ethan suddenly stopped. “Wait.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper he had carried for years. The edges were worn and yellowed. “Grandma told me to open this if I ever found where I came from.” His fingers trembled as he unfolded it. A photograph slipped out first. It showed two newborn babies lying side by side in hospital bassinets. Written on the back were three chilling words: THEY TOOK ONE. Olivia stared at the image in horror. Then she noticed something else hidden inside the envelope. A key. Attached to it was a handwritten address. An abandoned building on the outskirts of the city. And beneath the address was a warning that made everyone’s blood run cold: If you’re reading this, they know the truth is alive.
Chapter 3: The Abandoned Building
Rain had started falling by the time they reached the edge of the city.
Olivia drove with trembling hands while Ryan and Ethan sat silently in the back seat. The photograph of the twin babies rested on Ethan’s lap. Every few seconds, he looked from the picture to Ryan’s face, still struggling to accept that he might have a brother. Behind them, traffic had thinned, but Olivia couldn’t shake the feeling they were being followed. The airport employee had refused to come with them. Before leaving, he had handed Olivia an old business card and whispered, “If you find what’s hidden there, you’ll finally understand why someone wanted one of your sons erased.” Those words echoed in her mind as they pulled up outside the abandoned address. It was an old records warehouse surrounded by rusted fences and broken windows. The place looked forgotten. Yet the lock on the front gate had recently been replaced. Ethan stepped forward with the key from the envelope. To everyone’s surprise, it fit perfectly. The gate creaked open.
Inside, dust covered everything except a narrow path leading toward a locked office. The key opened that door too. Ryan found a flashlight while Olivia searched through old filing cabinets. Most were empty. Someone had cleared them out years ago. Then Ethan noticed a loose floorboard beneath an old desk. Together, the boys pried it open. Hidden underneath was a metal box. Inside were dozens of hospital records, photographs, and cassette tapes. Olivia’s breath caught when she found her own name printed on a birth file dated twenty years earlier. Her hands shook as she opened it. The document clearly listed two male infants born that night. Twin A. Twin B. Both healthy. Both alive. Tears filled her eyes. The doctors had lied. Ethan looked through another folder and found photographs of several newborns. Each image was marked with a number. Some were circled in red ink. Then Ryan discovered a final cassette tape labeled: CONFESSION. Olivia pressed play. Static filled the room. A man’s nervous voice emerged. “My name is Dr. William Hayes. If anyone hears this, I need the truth to survive me.” Everyone froze. “The babies were never dead,” the voice continued. “They were sold.” Suddenly headlights flashed through the warehouse windows. Someone had found them.
Chapter 4: The Truth About Baby #1
The warehouse door exploded inward.
Everyone jumped.
Voices echoed outside.
“Search every room!”
Olivia quickly grabbed the files while Ryan and Ethan hid behind stacks of old boxes. Flashlights swept through the darkness. The men who had followed them from the airport were inside now. One of them picked up the cassette recorder. For a terrifying second, everyone thought the evidence was lost. But the man simply cursed and moved on. They were looking for something else. Or someone else. Ethan held his breath. Then he heard one of the strangers say words that made his blood run cold. “The chairman wants Baby #1 found before sunrise.” Ryan stared at Ethan. Olivia stared at Ryan. Suddenly they realized something horrifying. The men weren’t searching for Ethan. They were searching for Ryan. Before anyone could react, police sirens erupted outside. The strangers fled through a rear exit. Moments later, officers flooded the building. Leading them was a gray-haired detective who had spent decades investigating missing children cases. He listened to the recording and reviewed the documents in stunned silence.
Hours later, inside police headquarters, the full truth finally emerged. Twenty years earlier, a criminal network had secretly trafficked newborns from several hospitals. Wealthy clients paid enormous sums for carefully selected children. The organization specialized in erasing identities and altering records. But Olivia’s case had been different. According to the recovered files, both twins had been targeted. One was successfully taken. The second was supposed to disappear as well. Yet something went wrong. A nurse named Margaret discovered the scheme. She secretly rescued one baby and fled. That child became Ethan. The other infant remained in the system and was eventually returned to Olivia under a false story about his brother’s death. Ryan’s entire life had been built on a lie. But the greatest shock was still waiting. Among the evidence was a recent photograph taken only three months earlier. It showed an elderly man stepping out of a luxury car. Detectives immediately recognized him. He was one of the richest businessmen in the country. On the back of the photograph were four handwritten words:
